There's music in them there hills...

THE hills around Pomeroy will soon be filled with music again as pupils enroled in traditional music classes commence again on Tuesday 15th September in St. Marys' Primary school Pomeroy.
Pomeroy branch of Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Eireann has just announced its programme for the 2009/2010 year.

Enrolment for music classes will be held in St. Mary's Primary school on Tuesday 8th September between 7pm and 9pm.

Places are limited in accordion, banjo, fiddle and tin whistle. The classes commence on Tuesday afternoon on 15th September 2009.

The tutors for this year are Clare McCrystal (fiddle), Eugene Hackett (Banjo/Mandolin), Martina Quinn (accordion) and Donna Campbell (tin whistle).

This year it has been decided to hold a family session after each 6 week block of lessons.

This session will replace the music classes for that week and will be held in the primary school as normal. There will be no charge on this night.

The intention is to give all pupils and families an opportunity to socialise and it will enable parents to meet the teachers and established their childrens' progress.

This family session will also provide a platform for pupils to perform as members of a group or as soloists and will give younger pupils the chance to hear the music they will be taught in the future.

It is hoped that all pupils will attend and bring at least one parent to the family sessions to enjoy a tune and a cup of tea in an informal setting.

During the coming year more information will be provided about regular sessions and events (to be arranged).

All enquiries about classes should be directed to Donna Campbell. Telephone 02887757931
