This year the Feakle Festival of Irish Traditional Music marks its 25th year. The Festival has over the years remained true to its original concept, to present the music of East Clare and beyond in an intimate setting for genuine music lovers to enjoy. Over the years the Festival has garnered many loyal fans that travel annually from all corners of the world every August to Feakle. Many come just to
listen, others to learn at the various workshops and some to join in and play at the many sessions.

The Arts Council, Clare County Council and local business support the Festival but like all Arts events around the country there has been cuts. To assist the Festival in making up the loss of these cuts they introduced a “Feakle 25 Friend” campaign. “Feakle 25 Friends” will have priority booking, priority seating and a free DVD and poster. The deadline for becoming a “Friend” is June 21st. Visit the Feakle
Festival website for full details.

This year’s programme will reflect the history of the festival with the return of many Festival favourites, including the annual homecoming concert by Martin Hayes and Dennis Cahill. With the assistance of Leader, a DVD is being produced of the 25-year history of the Feakle Festival. This will feature in the opening ceremony on Wednesday August 8th. An exhibition of all previous Festival posters
can be seen in the Community Hall throughout the Festival and copies can be purchased at the Festival Office.

In the past ten years, the three mornings of workshops in most traditional instruments and singing have become a vital aspect of the
Festival. The tutors are top class and with a special session led by the tutors orgainsed for every afternoon, many pupils cite the
experience as giving them the confidence and ability to go on and play with others all year round.

The Festival hopes that all who come to Feakle this year help to make it extra special. They are proud of their music and the Festival has
gone a long way in bringing it to a wider audience and they are confident the music and tunes of East Clare will live on.
